Brigette
Learning Specialist + EF Coach
M.Ed
Hi there! My name is Brigette, and I have spent the last eighteen years of my professional life working with a wide variety of student profiles in multiple capacities. I began my career working as a one-to-one aide for children with multiple learning differences. During these years, I received formal ABA/discrete trial training and received my BCAT (Board Certified Autism Technician) certification in 2017. I have many years of experience working with children not only in this field, but also children who experience learning differences in cognition, speech, fine/gross motor skills and social/emotional skills.
I was a part of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars as well as the “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges” in 2010, and received English Honors Awards in both 2014 and 2015. During these years I also worked as the Literacy Aide/classroom Aide at a K-5 Elementary school, providing extra help for English Language Learners as well as assisting multiple teachers with their daily routines.
From there, I began working for an Educational Services company as an instructor and worked my way up to being the Director of Education for the last two years. I also obtained my Master’s degree in Education, and worked as an Educational Therapist. My undergraduate degree is in English Literature, and I have an extensive knowledge and love for reading, writing, and particularly grammar. I have ample experience implementing multiple literacy programs including Orton Gillingham, Lindamood Bell, Handwriting Without Tears and Hooked on Phonics. Additionally, I have worked with students to remediate learning disorders in math using Math U See and other multisensory methods to meet the learner where they are and instilling confidence in themselves.
In my free time, I volunteer at Back Bay Therapeutic Riding Center in Newport, which provides horseback riding therapy lessons for children with special needs. We teach the riders skills such as grooming and tacking up their own horses to foster independence, organizational skills, and most importantly we help build their confidence. I also work at a wolf sanctuary in the Angeles National Forest where we provide animal-based therapy for school-aged children. I enjoy teaching all types of learners and I pride myself on my attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to connect with students on a personal level to ensure they are receiving the best support possible.
