Brenan

Hi! My name is Brenan and I am a passionate educator with nearly a decade of experience working as a lead classroom teacher in a public charter Waldorf-inspired school. I design engaging, student-centered, project-based curricula. Raised in Northridge, California, I attended a Waldorf school for twelve years and earned my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from California State University, Northridge. Concurrently, I obtained my Waldorf teacher certification from the Waldorf Institute of Southern California, while working as a long-term substitute teacher (at the school where I currently work!), and as a Teacher’s Assistant in various classes under the guidance of my mentor professor at CSUN. 

Seeking to deepen my expertise, I pursued a Master of Arts at the University of Chicago, where I was immersed in rigorous academic inquiry and pedagogical knowledge. When I returned to Los Angeles with my degree, I worked to earn myriad teaching credentials and certifications that empower me to work effectively with diverse learners. These learners include those with learning differences, IEPs, 504 plans, EL learners, neurodiverse students, and GATE students. I deliver high-quality education with individualized support, strategies, and remediation for all my students.

Throughout my career, I have focused on designing engaging and meaningful lesson plans for multiple subjects and grade levels primarily within the upper middle grades (5-8). These plans incorporate state standards and UDL principles, utilizing data-driven strategies to enhance student performance on standardized assessments. I specialize in executive functioning and organizational skills, helping students develop efficient task management and attention to detail. I love working with students to increase their literacy skills and confidence.

I have supported students in reading, writing, and college-level readiness, with many of my former students gaining acceptance to their top-choice colleges. 

I am dedicated to empowering students, ensuring all learners thrive in a supportive and dynamic environment, and fostering a love of life-long learning. I can’t wait to meet you and get started!
