Anel

Educational Therapist

MA, ET

Hi, my name is Anel, and from an early age, I knew that I wanted to work to improve the lives of children. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Adolescent Development from CSUN, I was then afforded the opportunity to become a home visitor for underserved children, where I supported school readiness within families in a one-on-one instructional setting. As a team leader, the overarching goal was the success of the whole child.

Through my work with these children, I developed a deep understanding that each learner is unique, that families are multifaceted, and that children learn in different ways. To continue supporting students and their families at a higher level, I earned my Master of Arts in Special Education with a focus in Educational Therapy from CSUN. During this program, I completed two Educational Therapy internships under the supervision of Marcy Dann, a highly respected Educational Therapist in the field. I am also a member of the Association of Educational Therapists, which allows me to stay connected with colleagues and continue my professional growth.

I work with students with a range of learning differences, including dyslexia, dyscalculia, auditory processing disorder, ADHD, and executive functioning challenges, among others. I am trained in and experienced with implementing a variety of research-based remediation programs across reading, writing, and math, including Lindamood-Bell’s Visualizing and Verbalizing, the Orton-Gillingham approach, the Barton Reading and Spelling System, and Step Up to Writing. As a trained Executive Functioning coach, I also support students in developing skills such as planning, organization, time management, and task initiation.

I believe wholeheartedly that every child is capable of success when given the opportunity to understand themselves as a learner. I feel fortunate to engage in this work each day—helping students build on their strengths, develop a growth mindset, strengthen self-advocacy skills, and utilize a range of strategies and tools that empower them to become confident, independent learners.
