Learning Specialist

M.S. Teaching Cred (Mild/Mod SPED), MA SEL

Hi there! My name is Abby and I am a Learning Specialist who works with students who are neurodivergent and/or have learning differences.

I attended the University of Alabama for my undergrad, receiving my Bachelor of Science in Education through the Multiple Abilities Program. Along with my degree, I gained teaching credentials in four areas including Multiple Subjects, Mild/Moderate Special Education, Early Childhood Education, and Special Early Childhood Education. I then went on to earn my Masters in Social-Emotional Learning, which focused on self-care, cognition, trauma, and the ability to create healthy environments and relationships that are culturally responsive, equitable, and supportive for the whole child.

Aside from working 1:1 with students, I also have experience being in the classroom; I was a teacher for various grades in general and special education, including teaching virtually during the pandemic. I also enjoy teaching special education for a local school district and have been doing so since! Some of my favorite parts of my job are seeing my students reach their individual goals, gain overall confidence, and creating personal relationships with each of them and their families. I am very excited to be a part of the Illuminate team so that I can continue to support students with various needs, abilities, and backgrounds.
